This coming Monday, the Your Place Program will be holding an information session for women in the community who are interested in tuition-free skilled trades training, and employment opportunities on the LNG Canada project.

The Your Place program was created LNG Canada and their primary contractor, JGC Fluor in June of this year. It’s purpose is to help women build a career in the trades while helping to build the LNG Canada facility.

According to LNG Canada, the Okanagan is likely to be a flight-hub for the project once construction ramps up, and they’re hoping to give women in Kelowna and throughout the Okanagan.

“Even in a community like Kelowna, where there is a thriving Women in Trades Training program, women make up less than 5% of the typical construction workforce, despite comprising 50% of the total workforce,” says a spokesperson for the program.

“Multiple barriers have traditionally kept women out of well-paying, meaningful careers in the trades, and we hope to change that.”

LNG Canada is building the first large-scale liquefied natural gas export facility in BC. At the peak of the project, they'll need about 7,500 workers.

The information session will be held at the Innovation Centre, located at 460 Doyle Avenue, at 6:30 pm on Sept. 30. To register, click here.
